National marathoner Lee Bong-ju has been appointed as the ambassador for the ‘2024 Yangcheon Marathon.’
Yangcheon District Office (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the morning of the 16th that Lee Bong-ju will serve as the ambassador for the ‘2024 Yangcheon Marathon,’ which will be held on April 27, during an appointment ceremony held at the district office meeting room.
Lee Bong-ju is a national marathoner who won the silver medal in the marathon at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, gold medals at the 1998 and 2002 Asian Games, and victories at prestigious international competitions such as the 2001 Boston Marathon and the 2007 Seoul International Marathon.
The district has appointed Lee Bong-ju, who has long inspired hope and emotion among the public, as the official ambassador for the ‘2024 Yangcheon Marathon,’ aiming to enhance the status of the event as a nationwide competition and deliver a message of hope to citizens.
In particular, on the day of the ‘2024 Yangcheon Marathon,’ Lee Bong-ju will communicate with participants through an on-site fan signing event and encourage marathon finishers. Additionally, a promotional video featuring Lee will be produced and posted on the district office and race registration websites to encourage participation from marathon enthusiasts nationwide.
Meanwhile, this year’s event, marking its 13th edition, will add event courses such as a 10km couple run and a 5km family run to the existing half marathon, 10km, and 5km races. Participants must register on a first-come, first-served basis through the official website by April 2.
