Gunsan Coast Guard's Special Crackdown on Illegal Moray Eel Fishing... Until June 2
Gunsan Maritime Police Station (Chief Park Kyung-chae) will conduct a special crackdown on illegal glass eel fishing from February 19 to June 2, coinciding with the glass eel fishing season.
According to the Maritime Police on the 16th, in line with the illegal glass eel fishing season, a second round of countermeasure meetings was held on the 29th of last month and the 15th of this month with related organizations such as the West Sea Fisheries Management Unit to eradicate the recurring illegal glass eel fishing every year.
The main targets of the crackdown are ▲ unauthorized fishing ▲ unregistered vessels ▲ illegal fishing gear loading ▲ illegal fishing on navigation routes, etc.
Prior to the crackdown, from the 19th to the 3rd of next month, a two-week advance notice system related to the crackdown will be implemented through sufficient publicity such as posting banners, electronic display board promotions, and sending official letters to fishing villages.
Fishermen will be encouraged to voluntarily remove illegal fishing gear themselves, thereby promoting self-purification among fishermen and establishing maritime law and order.
The Maritime Police will organize and operate a dedicated investigation team (Criminal Division 2). If necessary, they will mobilize water and criminal personnel, patrol vessels, and substation staff to carry out comprehensive crackdown activities both at sea and on land.
When illegal fishing is detected, a zero-tolerance policy will be applied and strict punishment enforced. Related organizations will also be notified to induce administrative measures such as fines.
