President Yoon Suk-yeol received a report on the 15th that a cargo ship was sinking in the waters off Seogwipo, Jeju, and gave an urgent order to "prioritize saving the people on the tilting ship."
That night, upon receiving the report that a cargo ship was sinking in the Seogwipo waters, President Yoon instructed Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung, and Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard Kim Jong-wook accordingly, according to Kim Soo-kyung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office.
President Yoon particularly emphasized, "Activate the public-private-military cooperation system including the navy and fishing vessels, and the navy and coast guard should mobilize all available personnel and equipment."
