Wando-gun Supports Accommodation Costs for Island Residents When Passenger Ships Are Canceled
40,000 Won per Day, Annual Limit of 200,000 Won Support
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, is promoting a project to support accommodation expenses for island residents when passenger ferries are canceled.
According to the county on the 15th, the project was implemented to ease the burden of accommodation costs for residents using coastal passenger ferries who have to stay on the mainland due to weather conditions.

The support targets island residents living in Geumil, Nohwa, Gunoe (Heugildo, Baegildo, Donghwado), Cheongsan, Soan, Geumdang, Bogil, and Saengil, who must have been registered residents in the island area for more than six months as of the accommodation date. The support amount is 40,000 KRW per day, with an annual payment limit of 200,000 KRW.
Residents who wish to receive accommodation support must visit their local eup/myeon office within 10 days after the accommodation date and submit an application form, accommodation receipt, and passenger ferry ticket.
The county enacted the "Wando-gun Coastal Passenger Ferry User Island Resident Accommodation Support Ordinance" in December 2021 and supported accommodation expenses for a total of 330 island residents from the second half of 2022 to 2023.
The project will continue until the budget is exhausted, and it is expected that more island residents will benefit this year.
County Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, "I am glad that this project can improve the welfare of island residents who have no choice but to stay on the mainland during bad weather and relieve the burden of accommodation expenses," adding, "We will do our best to discover and promote projects that can improve the living conditions of island residents."
