Yoon's Aide Email Hacked Before UK Visit... Presidential Office "Detected in Advance and Took Action"
Suspected North Korean Hacking Attack
Measures to Raise Security Awareness
Not a Security System Hack
It was recently revealed that an email of a presidential office administrator was hacked by external forces just before President Yoon Suk-yeol's November visit to the UK and France last year.
According to the presidential office on the 14th, the administrator alternated between using the presidential office email and a personal email during the preparation process for the visit, and it is reported that the personal email was hacked. The presidential office suspects North Korea as the perpetrator of the hacking attack on the administrator's personal email.
Earlier, some media outlets reported that the hacked information included some event schedules related to President Yoon's state visit to the UK and presidential messages.
In a press briefing on the same day, the presidential office explained, "External hacking attacks are constant, and continuous monitoring is being conducted. The incident was detected in advance before the start of the visit, and necessary measures were taken."
They added, "The cause was a security regulation violation due to the administrator's personal negligence in using a commercial email for official work, and security enhancement measures such as raising security awareness were implemented to prevent recurrence."
