'Cirque du Soleil Lucia Busan' Successfully Concluded! ... Building a Global Intellectual Property International Tourism City Brand
January 13 to February 4, Total Attendance of 75,400 Visitors, Strong Response from Citizens and Domestic and International Tourists
Regular Events Scheduled Until 2030 ... Establishing as a Tourism Content and Enhancing Status as a Global Tourism
Busan City announced that the global performance intellectual property (IP) 'Cirque du Soleil Luzia Busan,' held at the outdoor parking lot of Shinsegae Centum City in Haeundae-gu from January 13 to February 4, was successfully concluded with great enthusiasm from both domestic and international tourists and citizens.
The performance was held a total of 31 times over approximately three weeks, attracting a total audience of 75,400, with a paid seat occupancy rate of 98%. This seat occupancy rate surpassed that of the 2018 Seoul Jamsil performance 'KOOZA,' which was Cirque du Soleil's highest-grossing show, proving its presence as a new global tourism content for Busan.
Notably, about 46% of the tickets sold were to audiences from outside Busan, providing not only Busan citizens but also domestic and international tourists from nearby areas with the joy of experiencing a world-class performance. This is expected to establish the show as a key winter tourism content that attracts tourists from surrounding regions to Busan.
The ticket sales ratio from outside Busan was analyzed as follows: Gyeongsang Province 19%, Seoul 12%, Daegu 6%, Ulsan 6%, and others (Jeju, Jeolla, Chungcheong, Gwangju, etc.) 3%.
Visitors to the performance praised it, saying, "It was amazing to be able to see such a unique and differentiated cultural and artistic performance in Busan."
This performance is the result of the city's long-standing efforts to actively discover winter tourism content and to attract performances outside Seoul since Cirque du Soleil first performed in Korea in 2007.
Canada's Cirque du Soleil Group, through a business agreement with the city and the domestic organizer Mast International, confirmed the first-ever regional tour in Korea and selected Busan as a new city to regularly host Cirque du Soleil performances until 2030.
The city plans to collaborate with Cirque du Soleil to support the regular hosting of 'Cirque du Soleil, Busan' performances until 2030 and actively foster representative winter tourism programs that attract domestic and international tourists linked to the performances.
For individual domestic tourists, the city aims to develop a representative winter tourism program for the southeastern region by linking Cirque du Soleil with major tourist attractions in Ulsan and Gyeongnam areas, and actively utilize marketing efforts to attract tourists by collaborating with local inbound travel agencies to develop tourism products.
In particular, to strengthen Busan's competitiveness as a global hub tourism city, the city will continue to attract global intellectual property (IP) regional tourism content and landmark tourist resources like Cirque du Soleil, aiming to make Busan the 'Mecca of Intellectual Property (IP)' and actively create a tourism industry ecosystem based on global IP.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, "For Busan to become a global hub tourism city, new industries such as logistics and finance are important, but elevating cultural tourism content to a world-class level is also very crucial. Since Busan has been selected as a new city to showcase 'Cirque du Soleil,' one of the most beloved global cultural contents, until 2030, our city will strive even harder to ensure that citizens and many visitors to Busan can enjoy new cultural tourism content."
