'Geon-guk Jeonjaeng' Surpasses 380,000... Series of Viewing Confirmations on Far-Right Communities
Increased Interest in Mentions by Politicians and YouTubers
The documentary film 'Geon-guk Jeonjaeng' (The Founding War), which covers the life of Syngman Rhee, the first president of South Korea, has surpassed 380,000 cumulative viewers, drawing attention as a potential signal for conservative consolidation. Even members of the far-right community 'Ilgan Best (Ilbe)' appear to be posting reviews and encouraging others to watch the film.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office data on the 14th, Geon-guk Jeonjaeng attracted 52,217 viewers on the 13th alone, ranking second at the box office. The cumulative audience reached 382,158 as of that day.
Geon-guk Jeonjaeng was released on the 1st. The documentary highlights the life and political career of the former president, and recently has become a hot topic as conservative political figures and YouTubers have left reviews.
For example, Ryu Seok-chun, a former Yonsei University professor who sparked controversy with remarks during a past lecture implying that 'comfort women were a form of prostitution,' also praised the film. On the 9th, appearing on the YouTube channel 'Jeong Gyu-jae TV,' he said, "When we first made the film and watched it, we thought 'this could be a big hit.' Although I wasn’t confident it would succeed due to many obstacles along the way, we ourselves concluded that it was very well made."

A mobilization atmosphere is even sensed within the far-right community 'Ilbe.' Some users have written movie reviews and posted ticket purchase verifications to encourage other members to watch. Posts include comments like "Watched Geon-guk Jeonjaeng twice," "I booked tickets, please feature this in the best posts," and "If the audience surpasses 1 million, I will treat 30 people to a 1 million won meal."
Famous singer Naul also confirmed his attendance. [Image source=Instagram capture]
