Professor Bae Jae-woong of National Pukyong University Selected as 'Emerging Researcher in Materials Innovation'
Professor Bae Jae-woong (Department of Metallurgical Engineering) at Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-soo) was selected as the 2024 ‘Young Researcher in Materials Innovation’ by The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (President Ju Se-don), the university announced on the 12th.
Professor Bae was recognized for his significant contributions to the advancement of metallurgy and materials engineering through his research on developing structural metallic materials, including steel and high-entropy alloys, by utilizing unique microstructures and deformation mechanisms based on alloy design and process control.
In response to carbon neutrality and energy transition, with the hydrogen industry actively progressing both domestically and internationally and the increasing emphasis on high strength and hydrogen embrittlement resistance of metallic materials, Professor Bae has been conducting research on developing high-strength, hydrogen-embrittlement-resistant alloys by controlling heterogeneity within microstructures to exploit interactions between hydrogen atoms and lattice defects. He is gaining attention as an outstanding young researcher in this field.
