President Yoon and his wife join hometown love donation campaign ahead of Lunar New Year... 4.8 million KRW donated to 16 cities and provinces
President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife participated in the Hometown Love Donation Program ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday on the 8th.
According to the Presidential Office, on this day, the presidential couple donated 300,000 won each to 16 cities and provinces excluding Seoul, totaling 4.8 million won. The return gifts from each city and province in response to the donations will be re-donated to welfare facilities located in Seoul.
The Hometown Love Donation Program, first implemented last year, is a system where individuals donate to local governments other than their registered address to expand local finances. Local governments provide regional specialties and other return gifts to promote the revitalization of the local economy.
President Yoon stated, "Over the past year since the implementation of the Hometown Love Donation Program, more than 500,000 donors have contributed 65 billion won. As intended by the program, a large amount of funds has been concentrated in financially struggling local governments and areas experiencing population decline." He added, "I urge the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and local governments to actively work to ensure that the warm hearts of the people’s donations lead to balanced development and revitalization of the local economy."
