Guro-gu's 'Seolmaji Volunteer Activity' Brings Warmth to Neighbors
182 Volunteers from Volunteer Cooperation Group, Danjeongi Volunteer Group, and Volunteer Camp Participate in Lunar New Year Service Activities
Provided Holiday Food, Hairdressing, and Companionship Services to 922 Vulnerable Individuals
Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) is conducting volunteer activities for low-income vulnerable groups in the area in collaboration with local volunteer organizations in celebration of the upcoming traditional Korean holiday, Seollal.
The district stated that it carries out these activities annually to alleviate feelings of loneliness and alienation that vulnerable groups may experience during the holiday through relationship-centered volunteer work, creating a warm Seollal atmosphere shared with neighbors.
From the 29th of last month to the 8th of this month, 160 members of the Dong Volunteer Cooperation Group, 16 members of the Volunteer Camp, and 6 members of the Danjeongi Volunteer Group have participated, extending warm hands to low-income youth, elderly living alone, and people with disabilities.
The Volunteer Cooperation Group began their activities in Sindorim-dong on the 29th of last month and concluded their schedule in Hang-dong on the 6th of this month. Each Dong Volunteer Cooperation Group continued volunteering for neighboring residents, delivering daily necessities or serving holiday meals to 740 low-income people with disabilities and youth.
The Volunteer Camp provided phone calls or home visit companionship services to 166 low-income elderly living alone in each Dong. They checked the health status of the elderly, helped alleviate depression, and prepared for possible accidents during the holiday period.
The Danjeongi Volunteer Group visited the homes of 16 low-income elderly and disabled individuals with mobility difficulties on the 6th, providing hairdressing and grooming services so they could welcome Seollal looking neat and tidy.
