The fire has ignited.
Shin Ji-ae has been fully committed to overseas tours since the beginning of the new year to secure a ticket to the Paris Olympics.
View original imageThis refers to the competition for South Korea's participation in the Paris Olympics. The golf events at the Paris Olympics will be held this August. The men's competition will take place from August 1, and the women's from August 7, lasting four days. The venue is Le Golf National Golf Course near Paris, France. The format is a 4-round, 72-hole stroke play. The entry list consists of 60 players. The official Olympic ranking, based on world rankings, is the criterion. The ranking period is from June 13, 2022, to June 24, 2024. If multiple players from one country are within the top 15, up to four players from that country can participate.
The women's division is intense. As of the 9th, Ko Jin-young, ranked 6th in the world, and Kim Hyo-joo, ranked 9th, are in a safe zone. Unless a major upset occurs, they can comfortably take the stage at the Paris Olympics. Yang Hee-young and Shin Ji-ae are fiercely competing for the remaining spots. Yang Hee-young is ranked 15th, and Shin Ji-ae is 16th. The point difference between the two players is 0.1, so a reversal is always possible.
Yang Hee-young is synonymous with consistency. Since debuting on the U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour in 2008, she has competed only on the regular tour. She has recorded 5 career wins and has finished in the 'top 10' 85 times. Last November, she won the CME Group Tour Championship. It was her first victory in 4 years and 9 months since the Honda LPGA Thailand in February 2019, significantly boosting her ranking. Yang Hee-young competes on the LPGA Tour, where top-ranked players are active, which is advantageous for earning points.
The veteran Shin Ji-ae's comeback is also formidable. Although she plays on the Japan Ladies Professional Golf Association (JLPGA) Tour, which offers relatively fewer points, she maintained the 15th spot in the world rankings until last week. Shin Ji-ae has been participating in overseas tournaments since the beginning of the year. On the 4th, she finished as runner-up at the Big Open of the Australian Ladies Professional Golf (WPGA) Tour, held at the Thirteenth Beach Golf Links Beach Course in Barwon Heads, Victoria, Australia. Although her world ranking dropped by one spot due to the absence of many top-ranked players, she is demonstrating peak form.
Shin Ji-ae plans to compete in the LPGA Tour, where many world ranking points are at stake. Last year, she showed her strength by finishing runner-up and third in major tournaments, the U.S. Women's Open and the AIG Women's Open, respectively. Last year's Rookie of the Year Yoo Hae-ran is ranked 31st, last year's Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour money leader Lee Ye-won is 32nd, Park Min-ji 34th, Choi Hye-jin 35th, Kim Su-ji 37th, and Jeon In-ji 38th, all dreaming of a comeback drama.
World No. 17 Kim Joo-hyung is determined to compete in the Paris Olympics and win a medal.
View original imageThe men's race is also heated. If the Olympics were held now, Kim Joo-hyung, ranked 17th in the world, and Im Sung-jae, ranked 30th, would wear the Taegeuk mark. Kim Joo-hyung, who has accumulated 3 wins on the U.S. Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour, is firmly preparing for the Paris Olympics. Having missed the chance to wear the Taegeuk mark at last year's Hangzhou Asian Games, he is determined to erase that regret this time. In September last year, he finished tied for 6th at the DP World Tour Kazou Open de France held at Le Golf National. He has perfectly completed his rehearsal for the Paris Olympics.

Im Sung-jae and Kim Si-woo, who won gold medals together at the Hangzhou Asian Games, are challenging the Olympics with a relaxed mindset. They also competed together at the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021. Among Korean players, An Byeong-hun's rise is remarkable. His world ranking soared from 60th last year to 42nd, the third highest among Korean players. An Byeong-hun has competed in three PGA Tour events this year, finishing as runner-up, 4th, and tied for 31st, showing excellent form. He is expected to be a dark horse in the fight for the Paris Olympic ticket.
