Yoon: "There are criticisms that 'doorstepping is ineffective'... Will create opportunities to engage with the media"
President Yoon's New Year Special Interview
President Yoon Suk-yeol responded on the 7th regarding the suspension of doorstepping (morning Q&A) and communication with the media, saying, "I will create opportunities to interact with the press from time to time."
President Yoon made this remark during the 100-minute broadcast of 'Special Interview: Visiting the Presidential Office' on KBS 1TV at 10 p.m., in response to a question about opinions expressing a desire to see him occasionally engage in Q&A sessions with reporters, even if not daily as before.
Regarding the suspension of doorstepping, he said, "Meeting young reporters on the way to work was very enjoyable, but the morning doorstepping was covered in articles throughout the day until evening, which hindered the proper delivery of messages from various ministries and was ineffective in communication between the president and the public. Due to much criticism, we held 60 sessions before suspending it."
President Yoon conducted his first doorstepping with the presidential press corps on May 11, 2022, the day after his inauguration. The doorstepping was suspended after the 61st session on November 18 of the same year, following a dispute between an MBC reporter and a presidential secretary.
