According to the police on the 7th, with the general election just over 60 days away, election situation rooms will be operated 24 hours a day at all police stations in the province for 80 days from that day until April 26. As competition among candidates is expected to intensify, they plan to strictly respond to various illegal acts occurring during the election process.
Since December 12 of last year, the 'Dedicated Election Crime Investigation Teams' have been organized and operated at all police stations, and these teams will be reinforced to strengthen intelligence gathering on various election-related illegal activities and to strictly and fairly crack down on them.
Going forward, the 'zero tolerance principle' will be applied to the 'five major election crimes' that seriously undermine the fairness of elections, regardless of political party or status, with strict punishment enforced. The five major election crimes are ▲ bribery ▲ dissemination of false information ▲ public officials' involvement in elections ▲ election violence ▲ illegal mobilization of groups.
The police emphasized that to prevent unnecessary misunderstandings such as 'suspicions of police election interference or biased investigations,' they will maintain a strict and neutral stance throughout the investigation process and thoroughly comply with legal procedures.
