Mokpo Christian Hospital Begins Knee Injection Treatment Using Stem Cells
Help for Patients with Persistent Pain After Conventional Cartilage Injection Treatment
Effectively Reduces Knee Pain... Faster Recovery Enables Immediate Daily Activities
The Orthopedics Department at Mokpo Christian Hospital announced on the 6th that it will begin a simple and effective treatment method for knee osteoarthritis using concentrated stem cells extracted from the patient's own bone marrow and injecting them into the knee.
This treatment works by having the stem cells directly act on the damaged knee joint to promote cartilage regeneration and reduce inflammation and knee pain. It is mainly suitable for patients experiencing mid-stage osteoarthritis and helps those whose pain persists despite conventional cartilage injection treatments.
Since this is not an arthroscopic surgery that drills holes into the bone, it is simpler than existing stem cell treatments, allowing for faster recovery and immediate return to daily life. Additionally, this treatment has the advantage of slowing the progression of knee osteoarthritis, potentially avoiding surgery.
Mr. Kim, in his 60s, who recently received stem cell treatment, said, "I used to be unable to sleep at night due to joint pain, but after the autologous stem cell treatment, the pain has significantly decreased." He expressed his gratitude to the attending physician, saying, "Now that I am free from pain, my quality of life has improved, and I am very happy and grateful."
Dr. Seong Ju-hyung, head of the Orthopedics Department in charge of the treatment, said, "I hope that information about this new treatment method will be provided to local residents so that patients suffering from pain can recover after treatment and improve their quality of life."

Dr. Wi Hee-su, CEO of Mokpo Christian Hospital, stated, "Until now, there have been no special treatment methods from arthroscopic surgery to end-stage degenerative arthritis, but bone marrow stem cell injection treatment could become a new non-surgical treatment alternative for mid-stage knee osteoarthritis."
