Eunpyeong-gu Ranks First for Two Consecutive Years in 'Traffic Culture Index Survey'
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2023 Traffic Culture Index Survey' Achieves A Grade for 2 Consecutive Years, Ranked 5th Among All Districts Nationwide
High Praise for Residents' Driving and Walking Behaviors and Administrative Efforts in Traffic Safety Policies
Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has been found to have the highest level of traffic culture and traffic safety awareness in Seoul.
According to the results of the "2023 Traffic Culture Index Survey" announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Eunpyeong-gu was the only district among Seoul's 25 autonomous districts to receive a high rating of grade A. It ranked 5th among autonomous districts nationwide, achieving the record of being first in Seoul for two consecutive years.
The "Traffic Culture Index," evaluated annually by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for basic local governments, is a comprehensive statistic showing the level of traffic culture in a city. Last year, 18 items across three areas?driving behavior, pedestrian behavior, and traffic safety?were surveyed in 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide.
Eunpyeong-gu achieved grade A by receiving high evaluations across the board, including driver and pedestrian behaviors such as ▲compliance rates with crosswalk signals and stop lines, ▲seatbelt usage rates, and ▲turn signal usage rates, as well as administrative efforts by the local government such as ▲traffic safety expertise and budget securing, and ▲implementation of traffic safety policies.
The district has continuously worked to improve traffic culture through measures such as improving the traffic system, installing LED floor signals in school zones, creating Eunpyeong-type pedestrian environment improvement zones, upgrading and maintaining traffic safety facilities, and installing smart crosswalks.
In particular, last year, it contributed to the establishment of traffic safety awareness and the spread of advanced traffic culture by actively conducting traffic safety education and campaigns tailored to the characteristics of target groups by age and social class.
This year, Eunpyeong-gu plans to further enhance its status as a traffic safety city by expanding the budget for traffic safety education and promotion, forming a traffic safety council with the police and related traffic safety organizations, and strengthening traffic safety policies.
