Gangnam Mirae Education Center Upgraded with New Content
Experience Zone Expands from 1 to 4 for Aspiring Space Explorers, Revamped into 16 NewTech Education Programs... Docent Robot 'Gang Mirae' Leads Classes and Escape Room Games with Robots, Space Science Expert and Corporate-Linked Academy Conducted
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong)'s Gangnam Future Education Center is expanding its existing experience zone into AI Zone, Robotics Zone, and XR Zone, and newly operating three space exploration experience programs. In addition, eight new tech education programs have been added, showcasing a total of 16 future education programs.
Since its opening in September 2022, now in its third year, the center has served 16,756 participants, and over 50 domestic and international institutions have visited for benchmarking. Recognized as an excellent local government education model, it received the Grand Prize at the '2023 Korea Local Administration Expo' and the Excellence Award at the '2023 Korea Spatial Welfare Awards,' continuously gaining external recognition for its excellence. Based on these achievements and capabilities, the center plans to expand new education programs this year.
Experience Zones Expanded from 1 to 4, Upgraded to 16 Education Programs Reflecting New Tech Fields
The experience zone, which has operated immersive content where students become space explorers building a Mars city, has been expanded. New AI Zone, Robotics Zone, and XR Zone have been established, and three space exploration mission programs have been added. In the ▲AI Zone, students plan their own city using generative AI programs; in the ▲Robotics Zone, they operate autonomous vehicles and robots to load and transport items onto a spaceship; and in the ▲XR Zone, they move to a virtual space environment to directly repair a broken spaceship, naturally acquiring space-related knowledge.
The education programs have also been revamped. From the existing four industrial revolution fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous driving, and coding, eight new tech programs have been added, operating a total of 16 program fields. New programs include ▲‘Digital Human Class,’ where students create metahumans and write AI ethics guides; ▲‘Supermassive AI Class,’ building future space cities; ▲‘Semiconductor Class,’ performing missions to develop space exploration communication equipment; and ▲‘Green Tech Class,’ producing and practicing renewable energy systems for Mars base operation.
Docent Robot ‘Gangmirae’ to Teach Classes, Plans to Introduce Escape Room Game with Robots
The docent robot will be actively utilized in education. Since its introduction in November last year, the service robot ‘Gangmirae,’ which welcomes visitors and assists with center usage guidance, has been upgraded to function as a ‘teaching robot.’ The robot will serve as a 1:1 assistant instructor for students and act as a curator explaining student portfolios and works to visitors. Space content experience programs narrated by Gangmirae can be participated in through prior reservation. Additionally, a smart escape room program involving robots is planned for the second half of this year.
Last year’s popular space science astronomy camp for elementary students during vacation will be operated with increased capacity this year. New programs include ▲‘Talent Development Data Science Camp’ for middle and high school students in collaboration with professors from Seoul National University Big Data Center, and ▲‘Gangnam-style Advanced Science Talent Academy’ for upper elementary students featuring lectures by space science experts and partnerships with companies.
