International Certification for Nuclear Quality Management Now Available Domestically... First Certificate Awarded
The Korea Accreditation Board (KAB) announced on the 31st that it held a ceremony at Seoul EL Tower, attended by Lee Ho-yeon, Director General of the Energy Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, among others, to present accreditation certificates and certification documents to the first-ever nuclear supply chain quality management system (ISO 19443) certification bodies and certified companies in Korea.
The international standard for the nuclear supply chain quality management system (ISO 19443) was established in 2018 as a nuclear quality management certification standard aimed at improving safety and quality across the entire nuclear supply chain. Recently, as the global nuclear power market, including Europe, has required ISO 19443 certification for nuclear power supply, the necessity to enhance competitiveness in nuclear power orders has increased.
Through the introduction of this certification system, domestic nuclear power companies can now obtain internationally recognized ISO 19443 certification from domestic certification bodies such as KSR Certification Institute, ICR, Korea Quality Foundation, and K Certification Institute without relying on overseas certification bodies. On this day, an ISO 19443 certification award ceremony was also held for Seong CNI, Gukje Electric, Hyosung Goodsprings, and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.
The Korea Accreditation Board (KAB) explained that to resolve the inconvenience that domestic companies could only obtain certification from overseas certification bodies, it has been promoting the domestic introduction of the ISO 19443 accreditation and certification system since December 2022 in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and other related organizations.
