Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol Meets US Ambassador: "Regret North Korea Provocations, Will Continue Strict Response"

View original imageOn the 30th, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol met with Philip Goldberg, the U.S. Ambassador to Korea, and exchanged views on the Korea-U.S. alliance, Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation, North Korean nuclear and North Korea issues, and cooperation measures at regional and global levels.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Cho evaluated that the Korea-U.S. global comprehensive strategic alliance has been strengthened to an unprecedented level during his meeting with Ambassador Goldberg, and said that they should continue the trend of alliance development this year as well.
He also mentioned that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit and expressed hope to further strengthen cooperation based on the agreements from last year's Camp David summit.
Ambassador Goldberg assessed that the strengthening of Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation based on improved Korea-Japan relations is thanks to President Yoon Seok-yeol's political determination, and responded that he hopes to continue enhancing Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation going forward.
Minister Cho and Ambassador Goldberg expressed deep regret over North Korea's repeated provocations, which have heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in the region. In response, they agreed to deter North Korea's threats and continue unified responses to provocations based on close Korea-U.S. coordination and combined defense posture.
In particular, they agreed that military cooperation between Russia and North Korea violates international norms and seriously threatens world peace and stability, and that Korea and the U.S. will continue to respond strictly in coordination with the international community.
Minister Cho stated that he will actively promote economic and security convergence diplomacy and diplomacy in the era of the Group of Seven (G7) Plus, and expressed hope that Korea and the U.S. will cooperate more closely in these areas.

Ambassador Goldberg evaluated that Korea's role is becoming increasingly important as the international community faces various challenges, and responded that the U.S. actively supports Korea's active contributions to the international community as a global pivotal state.
