Choe Sang-mok Receives Customs Service Report... "Fully Committed to Lowering Lunar New Year Grocery Prices"
Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Minister of Strategy and Finance, urged the Korea Customs Service to "make every effort to lower the prices of shopping baskets for the Lunar New Year."
Deputy Prime Minister Choi made this remark on the 30th after receiving a business report from the Korea Customs Service.
He ordered thorough measures to reduce the burden of shopping basket prices in preparation for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, including the disclosure of import prices for major agricultural, livestock, and fishery products and the operation of a 24-hour customs clearance system.
He also emphasized the role of the Korea Customs Service in driving export recovery and requested continuous discovery of support measures for export-import companies, such as 'integrated logistics bonded warehouses.' He urged proactive communication with export-import companies to resolve on-site difficulties and to respond proactively to trade frictions through customs agreements with major countries.
He also requested crackdowns on smuggling and money laundering of illegal and hazardous goods such as drugs, which have recently become social issues.
Before the business report on the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Choi visited an export semiconductor integrated logistics bonded warehouse near Incheon Airport and a fresh fruit import company to listen to the difficulties faced by export-import sites and discuss support measures for export-import companies. Commissioner Ko Kwang-hyo of the Korea Customs Service accompanied him on this field visit to hear voices from the field.
