Mokpo City to Complete Indoor Swimming Pool Condensation Issue Improvement by April
Promotion of Wall Repair, Contaminant Removal, and Installation of HVAC Facilities
Mokpo City announced on the 30th that it will take immediate improvement measures regarding the condensation issue at the Mokpo Indoor Swimming Pool.
Last year, in preparation for the 104th National Sports Festival and the 43rd National Para Games, the city completely renovated the Mokpo Indoor Swimming Pool to meet official standards.
The full renovation was carried out to block external light by installing waterproof gypsum board on the diving pool windows to prevent backlight issues for relay broadcast cameras and glare for athletes.

After the National Sports Festival, the city planned to install air conditioning facilities (heating and cooling systems) after the 2024 National Youth Sports Festival to open the pool more perfectly to the public. However, due to continuous requests from existing pool users to keep it open, the city reluctantly decided to open it despite the condensation problems (such as wall mold and rust water).
A city official stated, “We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the condensation issue during the use of the indoor swimming pool,” and added, “We will close the pool as soon as possible and complete the construction before April.”

He also said, “We plan to proceed with the construction after reflecting the budget for the air conditioning installation in the supplementary budget, ensuring that there will be no disruption to citizens’ use of the swimming pool and the hosting of the 2024 National Youth (Disabled Students) Sports Festival.”
