Lotte Department Store "Return Holiday Cooler Bags, Get 5,000 L.Points"
Scheduled for Upcycling as Goods in the Second Half of the Year
Lotte Department Store announced on the 30th that from February 11 to March 3, customers who return the cooler bags used as holiday gift sets at the promotional event venues of all 32 Lotte Department Store branches will receive 5,000 L.Points. During the same period, customers who purchase fashion items worth more than 100,000 KRW will also receive an additional 10,000 L.Points.
This event is part of the ‘Cooler Bag Collection Program’, planned with the idea that most cooler bags included in gift sets are discarded as single-use waste.
According to Lotte Department Store, after the first collection program was implemented during the 2022 Chuseok holiday, a total of about 40,000 cooler bags were collected over three holiday seasons until last year’s Chuseok. Approximately 10,000 cooler bags were collected for the first time during the 2022 Chuseok, and about 15,000 cooler bags were collected during the 2023 Chuseok. This means the number has been increasing by about 10-20% each holiday season.
The cooler bags collected this time will be upcycled into various goods and introduced in the second half of this year. As part of Lotte Department Store’s ESG program, the ‘RE:EARTH’ campaign, upcycling goods will be produced not only from the collected cooler bags but also from discarded banners used in the department stores. In 2022, cross pouches were made, and in 2023, picnic mats and bottle bags were produced and given as thank-you gifts to about 10,000 customers. The upcycled goods, created in collaboration with a global upcycling specialist, provided great satisfaction to customers not only in design and quality but also in their eco-friendly significance.
Meanwhile, Lotte Department Store is incorporating various eco-friendly values into holiday gift packaging materials beyond cooler bags. Fruit baskets are made from 100% eco-friendly recycled pulp in paper material, and ice packs used for packaging meat use BIO SAP plant-based ice gel to facilitate recycling and separation.
