Prior to releasing the video, Jo appeared in court on the 26th regarding charges of admission fraud. On that day, the prosecution requested a sentence of one year in prison with three years of probation at the sentencing trial held on the 26th under Judge Lee Kyung-sun of the 16th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court, for charges including false document preparation, obstruction of business, and obstruction of public officials by deception. In her final statement, Jo said, "At first, I felt wronged because I thought it was legitimate," adding, "I graduated from Korea University with good grades, graduated from medical school with determination, obtained a medical license, and believe that achieving my dream of becoming a doctor was entirely the result of my own efforts."
She continued, "As time passed, I realized that I studied more easily than other students," and said, "I humbly accept the court’s judgment and, regardless of my efforts, have decided to give up my diploma and medical license." Jo stated, "I don’t know what kind of verdict I will receive, but I will humbly accept it and consider how to contribute to society in some way," and added, "I hope this incident will lead to greater fairness in our country."
