Senior Residence 'VL Le West' Popular for Enjoying Hobbies
- Age is Just a Number??? Active Seniors Enjoying Hobby Activities
- Diverse Community-Focused Complex 'VL LeWest' Nearing Completion
Community-specialized complexes are gaining attention as a senior residence housing trend. This is interpreted as a result of the emergence of active seniors, for whom hobbies have become an important part of life.
The background of this change is attributed to the increase in hobby consumers centered around active seniors. Hobby consumers, a compound word of 'hobby' and 'consumer,' refer to people who actively enjoy their hobbies.
According to the 2023 Social Survey data from Statistics Korea, 42.9% of respondents across all age groups expressed a desire to spend their later years engaging in hobbies. This is a 3.4 percentage point increase from 39.5% in 2021, two years earlier. This upward trend was led by the senior generation aged 60 and over. Among seniors aged 60 and above, 44.3% responded that they want to spend their later years through hobby activities.
Notably, hobbies have already become closely integrated into the daily lives of seniors. When asked how they are currently spending their later years, 33.2% of seniors answered that they are spending it through hobbies, the highest response rate. This reflects the needs of the senior generation who want to enjoy their daily lives through various activities after retirement.
