View original imageOn the 28th (local time), local media outlets Eldebate and El Sol de Sinaloa reported that the homeowner in the village of Alturas del Sur, Sinaloa state, found a diaper lying in the backyard of a house the day before. The diaper showed no signs of use and did not appear to be trash. Suspicious, the homeowner examined the diaper and found a note inside that read, "I am currently pregnant and am being abused by my partner. Please report this to the police." The note also included the name and address of the person presumed to have written it.
The homeowner immediately reported the matter to the police. The police found the pregnant woman at the given address, who had been continuously abused by her husband, and promptly arrested and detained the husband. It was also confirmed that the suspect was involved in drug-related crimes.
The victim was exhausted from her husband's abuse. It was revealed that early that morning, she threw the diaper with the note into the backyard of the neighboring house to seek help. Since she was unable to call the police directly, she used this clever method to ask for assistance from her neighbors.
The police stated, "The male suspect is accused of assaulting the victim while under the influence of drugs," and added, "The victim is currently in a safe place."
This case is one of many instances of domestic violence prevalent in Mexico. According to the 2022 "National Survey of Family Relationships" released by the Mexican National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 70.1% of women aged 15 and older surveyed in 2021 reported having experienced various forms of violence during their lifetime. In Sinaloa state, the figure was slightly lower at 66.2% compared to the national average.
