US Requests China to Exert Influence on North Korea's Provocations and Houthi Attacks in the Red Sea
The United States requested China to exercise its influence regarding North Korea's provocations and escalating tensions in the Middle East during high-level talks.
A senior U.S. government official said about the meeting held on the 26th-27th (local time) in Bangkok between Jake Sullivan, White House National Security Advisor, and Wang Yi, member of the Chinese Communist Party Central Political Bureau (also serving as Foreign Minister), "Both sides discussed North Korea," adding, "The U.S. is deeply concerned about North Korea's recent weapons tests, the strengthening of North Korea-Russia relations, and what this implies about the intentions of Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea."
The senior U.S. official stated, "Considering China's influence over North Korea, we directly raised these concerns with China, and we hope such dialogue between representatives of both sides continues." He added, "China clearly maintains influence over North Korea," and "We expect them to use that influence to bring us back to the path of North Korean denuclearization."
