KT will construct a new submarine cable connecting major Asian countries such as Japan and Indonesia. The plan is to actively respond to the rapidly increasing demand for cloud, big data, and internet traffic within the Asian region.

View original imageOn the 25th, KT announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the ALPHA project to build a new Asian submarine cable with telecommunications companies from Indonesia, Japan, and other countries the day before. KT and other telecommunications operators plan to build a submarine cable connecting South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam.
This MOU demonstrates international recognition of KT's submarine cable design, technical capabilities, and operational leadership. KT currently jointly operates seven international submarine cables, including APCN-2 and APG, with overseas international telecommunications operators to meet the demand for international leased lines and international internet. Among these, KT has served as the consortium chair for five submarine cables.
Based on its submarine cable technical expertise, KT plans to finalize the construction plan for the ALPHA submarine cable within this year, including reviewing and applying next-generation technologies and securing the optimal route in collaboration with consortium operators.
