Suncheon City Council Urges 'Reorganization' of Yeo-Sun Incident Truth Report Planning Team

The Atrocity of Forming a Planning Team Without Willingness to Uncover the Truth, Undermining the Foundation of Democracy

The Suncheon City Council in Jeollanam-do announced a proposal to reorganize the Yeosun Incident Truth Report Planning Group at the first plenary session of the 274th extraordinary meeting on the 24th.

The city council strongly urged to "immediately disband the biased planning group, reorganize it including experts on the Yeosun Incident, and immediately stop attempts to reverse the truth-finding of the Yeosun Incident."

Meanwhile, although the Yeosun Incident Act was enacted through bipartisan agreement 73 years after the occurrence of the Yeosun Incident, the government, on December 15th, not only excluded a single expert on the Yeosun Incident from the planning group tasked with uncovering the truth but also composed it of strongly right-wing and conservative biased figures, including those from the New Right faction and individuals who deny the Jeju 4.3 Incident.

In response, Representative Jeong Gwang-hyun, who announced the proposal on behalf of the group, stated, "It is an act of ignoring the people who long for the truth-finding to have biased figures at the center writing the final truth-finding report," and added, "This is an attempt to distort the substantial truth of the Yeosun Incident, entangled in immediate political interests."

The proposal urging the reorganization of the Yeosun Incident Truth Report Planning Group includes contents such as "Stop attempts to reverse the truth-finding of the Yeosun Incident immediately, government," and "Disband the biased planning group immediately and reorganize it with experts on the Yeosun Incident."
