Severe Disabled Workers Receive 70,000 KRW Monthly Support for Commuting Expenses
Ministry of Employment Increases Existing 50,000 Won Fee
The government has increased the transportation allowance for commuting of workers with severe disabilities from the previous 50,000 won per month to 70,000 won.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 23rd that starting this month, the transportation allowance for commuting of workers with severe disabilities will be raised accordingly. The ministry explained that this decision was made considering that the average commuting transportation cost for workers with severe disabilities is higher than the national average, and the average amount spent is gradually increasing.
The average monthly commuting transportation cost for workers with severe disabilities is 111,000 won, about 70,000 won higher than the national average of 45,000 won. The average monthly transportation expense increased from 25,000 won in 2021 to 59,000 won last year.
The transportation cost support for workers with severe disabilities is a program that supports actual transportation expenses such as bus fares, taxi fares, and private car fuel costs incurred during commuting, to encourage the work motivation of low-income workers with severe disabilities and help them maintain stable employment.
Since its pilot introduction in 2021, the number of beneficiaries has increased more than tenfold after expanding the support target last year to include basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups.
