In Seoul and the metropolitan area, rain and snow are mixed.
From the night of the 21st, under the influence of a low-pressure trough moving southward from the northwest, rain or snow will fall in the metropolitan area, western Gangwon, Chungcheong region, Jeolla region, Gyeongbuk region, and western Gyeongnam, mostly stopping by the early morning of the 22nd. Some inland southern Chungcheong and southern inland Gyeongbuk areas will see precipitation until the morning of the 22nd.
Due to easterly winds, rain or snow will fall mainly in the eastern Gangwon and northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk until the afternoon of the 21st. The intensity of the snow will vary depending on the strength of the easterly winds, and there is a possibility that it may change to rain depending on the surface temperature.
The expected snowfall from the 20th to 21st is 10?20 cm (with some areas exceeding 30 cm) in the Gangwon mountainous region, 3?8 cm (with some areas exceeding 10 cm) in the northern Gangwon east coast, and 3?8 cm (with some areas exceeding 10 cm) in the central and southern Gangwon east coast. The northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk will receive 5?10 cm (with some areas exceeding 15 cm), and the northern Gangwon east coast will see 1?3 cm of snow.
The Korea Meteorological Administration explained, "In the central and southern Gangwon east coast, as temperatures drop, rain is changing to snow, increasing the accumulation of snow. Strong snowfall of about 1?3 cm per hour is expected in Gangwon Yeongdong until early dawn (0?6 a.m.) on the 21st. There is a possibility that a heavy snow warning will be issued for the southern Gangwon east coast."
Additionally, due to the influence of the low-pressure trough, 1?5 cm of snow will accumulate or 1?20 mm of rain will fall in the metropolitan area, Chungcheong region, Jeolla region, Gyeongsang region, and Jeju Island. Especially in Jeju Island, 30?80 mm of rain is expected.
The rain and snow that fall will freeze, causing icy roads and black ice, making roads very slippery. Icy roads and black ice are also expected on low-temperature back roads, alleys, sloped roads, and shaded roads.
The morning low temperature is forecast to be between -1 and 8 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high temperature is expected to be between 3 and 11 degrees Celsius. Fine dust levels are expected to be "Good" nationwide.
