"Will Contribute to Solving Transportation Issues for Residents in the Western Seoul Metropolitan Area"
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) expressed respect on the 19th for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee's (hereinafter referred to as the MAWTC) "Seoul Line 5 Extension Project Adjustment Plan" and stated hopes that the relocation of the Banghwa-dong Construction Waste Disposal Site and Banghwa Vehicle Depot will proceed smoothly.
They also stated that the extension of Seoul Line 5 to Gimpo Geomdan is expected to greatly contribute to resolving the severe traffic congestion experienced by residents in the western metropolitan area during commuting hours.
Gangseo-gu signed a "Business Agreement for the Extension of Seoul Subway Line 5" together with Seoul City and Gimpo City on November 22, 2022. This agreement included a consensus on relocating the Banghwa-dong Construction Waste Disposal Site and Banghwa Vehicle Depot, one of the longest-standing wishes of Gangseo-gu residents.
The recently announced MAWTC adjustment plan for Seoul Line 5 also proposes that Gimpo City and Incheon City jointly take responsibility for establishing the disposal site.
