Naver Launches News Innovation Forum to Enhance Service Transparency and Fairness
Naver will launch an official organization composed of external experts to derive measures to enhance transparency and fairness in its news service.
On the 18th, Naver confirmed the external personnel who will participate in the News Innovation Forum (hereinafter referred to as the Innovation Forum) and announced that it will hold an inaugural ceremony and the first meeting in January to begin full-scale improvements to its news service.
The Naver News Innovation Forum includes seven external experts from various fields related to the media industry such as journalism, industry, law, and academia: Yongdae Kim, Professor of Statistics at Seoul National University; Wigeon Kim, Chief Research Officer at Publish; Eunmi Kim, Professor of Media and Communication at Seoul National University; Junki Kim, Professor at Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Administration; Moonhan Lee, Lawyer at Kim & Chang Law Firm; Jongsu Lee, Professor of Technology Management, Economics, and Policy at Seoul National University; and Seongjun Choi, Chief Lawyer at Kim & Chang Law Firm. The name has been changed from 'Naver News Innovation Preparatory Forum' to 'Naver News Innovation Forum' to accelerate the process and derive concrete measures to strengthen transparency and fairness.
The Innovation Forum will conduct a preliminary evaluation of the existing news service. It will review in-depth and comprehensive improvement plans to strengthen the fairness and objectivity of the news service. In a situation where demands for strengthening the social responsibility of digital media are increasing, Naver, as the largest portal operator in Korea, will derive improvement measures to fulfill its social responsibility.

Through the activities of the Innovation Forum, Naver plans to prepare a comprehensive plan (draft) for news service improvement within the first quarter of this year, including ▲ the composition and operation method for launching the News Partnership Evaluation Committee 2.0 ▲ the establishment of a permanent system to enhance algorithm fairness ▲ and responses to fake news.
