Emergency Disaster Fund of 3 Billion KRW Provided for 'River Pollution Accident' in Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek
Gyeonggi Province will urgently provide 3 billion KRW from the disaster management fund to Hwaseong City and Pyeongtaek City, which suffered damage from the ‘Hwaseong·Pyeongtaek River Pollution Accident’.
On the 18th, Gyeonggi Province held a related response meeting at the provincial office and announced that it decided to urgently support Hwaseong City and Pyeongtaek City with a total of 3 billion KRW from the disaster management fund, allocating 1.5 billion KRW to each city for swift damage recovery.
Gyeonggi Province plans to deliver emergency restoration funds to the two cities within the day.
Earlier, on the night of the 9th, a fire broke out at a hazardous materials handling facility in Yanggam-myeon, Hwaseong City, causing firefighting water and hazardous chemicals to flow into nearby rivers, polluting about an 8.5 km section of small rivers in Hwaseong City and managed streams in Pyeongtaek City.
Currently, containment work is underway to treat the contaminated soil and river water, including installing absorbent sheets around the fire site and building containment embankments at 15 points along the managed streams.
