Park Gyuntaek, Gwangsan-gu Gap Gwangju Preliminary Candidate, "Will Win the General Election with Lee Jae-myung"
Former Leader Lee Nak-yeon Leaves Party and Forms New Party, Criticized as "Groundless"
Park Gyuntaek, a preliminary candidate for the National Assembly representing Gwangsan-gu (Gap), Gwangju Metropolitan City, criticized former leader Lee Nak-yeon’s departure from the Democratic Party, calling it “a political act without any justification that leaves a painful wound and only causes division.”
In a statement, Park said, “We must move beyond baseless withdrawal and divisive politics to join forces with leader Lee Jae-myung and confront the prosecutorial dictatorship centered on the Democratic Party, judge the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, and advance toward victory in the general election.”
He continued, “The urgency of the Democratic Party’s victory in the general election lies in our responsibility to revive people’s livelihoods and restore the faltering democracy, giving hope once again to the citizens who are angry at the ruthless Yoon Seok-yeol administration.”
He also stated, “In the two years of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, there has been no stable or comfortable place in areas such as people’s livelihoods, democracy, peace, and human rights,” adding, “The public is outraged by President Yoon Seok-yeol’s reckless use of veto power, ignoring the constitutional spirit of the separation of powers regarding laws desired by the majority of the people.”
Furthermore, he explained, “The division within the Democratic Party, which has been at the center of the struggle against the military dictatorships of Rhee Syngman and Park Chung-hee and where the spirits of Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun live on, only aids the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and does nothing to help the public’s desire for regime judgment or the Democratic reform forces’ victory in the general election.”
