The meeting was also attended by SKT Global Solution Office Head (CDO) Ha Min-yong and Joby Aviation Vice President Eric Allison, among other executives from both companies. The CEOs of both companies have met for three consecutive years since CES 2022.
Both companies reviewed the preparation status and current issues ahead of their participation in the upcoming Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport-led public-private joint demonstration project, the 'K-UAM Grand Challenge (K-UAM GC)'. In accordance with the Ministry’s plan, they intend to introduce the actual UAM aircraft (Joby S4), not a prototype or scaled model, for the first time in Korea to demonstrate overall flight operations.
Additionally, the two companies discussed further cooperation plans including ▲ enhancing the stability of UAM services and introducing new technologies through AI technology collaboration ▲ jointly entering the global UAM market.
SKT signed a strategic business agreement with Joby Aviation for UAM business cooperation immediately after CES in January 2022. In June last year, SKT made a strategic investment of $100 million (approximately 130 billion KRW) in Joby Aviation, continuing their partnership to ensure the success of the UAM business.
Joby Aviation’s UAM vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL) S4 is currently undergoing aircraft certification by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Joby Aviation is recognized as a global leader in the UAM field, having succeeded in the industry’s first demonstration flight in New York last year and collaborating with Delta Air Lines and NASA.
