Kim Dong-yeon to Depart on the 13th for the 'Davos Forum'... The Only Local Government Head from Korea
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon will visit Davos, Switzerland, and Paris, France, from the 13th to the 21st of this month to participate in the '2024 World Economic Forum (WEF·Davos Forum)' held in Davos, Switzerland.
Governor Kim will have a busy schedule meeting with heads of state from various countries at the World Economic Forum to strengthen practical cooperation with Gyeonggi Province and discuss attracting global companies and investments.
Gyeonggi Province expects that attending this World Economic Forum will not only enhance the province's global status but also greatly contribute to the 'Domestic and Overseas Investment Attraction 100 Trillion+' initiative promoted by the 8th term of the provincial government.
Known as the 'Davos Forum,' the World Economic Forum is the largest brainstorming meeting where renowned global businesspeople, economists, and politicians gather to discuss economic issues and seek international practical tasks.
It holds authority and influence comparable to the 'World Economic Olympics' and is only open to invited participants. The forum will be attended by over 3,000 people, including 60 heads of state and 370 minister-level officials, making it the largest ever. Governor Kim Dong-yeon is the only domestic local government head invited to this forum.
During the World Economic Forum, Governor Kim will engage with major global political and economic leaders.
In particular, on the 18th, he will attend the International Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL). Chaired by Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), this meeting invites only high-level officials such as finance ministers, central bank governors, and international organization representatives during the World Economic Forum for a closed-door discussion on the theme of preventing economic fractures.
Governor Kim will also sign a memorandum of understanding on the 15th with Børge Brende, Chairman of the World Economic Forum, to establish a Fourth Industrial Revolution Center. This center functions like a branch of the World Economic Forum, playing roles such as building industry-academia-research networks, sharing technology trends, and promoting research projects.
Since its first establishment in San Francisco, USA, in 2017, there are 18 centers in countries including Japan and India.
Governor Kim plans to attend various sessions hosted by the World Economic Forum, such as 'Accelerating Net Zero: Manufacturing Innovation Strategy' and 'Accelerating Responsible Renewable Energy,' to discuss regional economic strategies related to urban development and regeneration under the theme of carbon-neutral cities.
Additionally, he will hold successive meetings with Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD); Abdulla Bin Touq, UAE Minister of Economy; Eknath Sambhaji Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, India; Li Lecheng, Governor of Liaoning Province, China; and Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). He will also meet Kai Beckmann, Chairman of Merck Germany, to engage in investment attraction activities.
After moving to France, Governor Kim will meet with the Governor of ?le-de-France, a friendly cooperative region with Gyeonggi Province, to discuss cooperation plans between the two regions.
