According to Samsung Electronics on the 10th, Chairman Lee visited Samsung Research to review trends and countermeasures for next-generation communication technologies, including 6G. Samsung Research is known as Samsung's global R&D hub, researching future technologies in cutting-edge fields such as next-generation network communication technology, AI, robotics, and healthcare.
6G is a core foundational technology that enables advanced technologies such as AI, autonomous vehicles, robotics, and extended reality (XR) to be realized in everyday life. Chairman Lee chose the development site of next-generation 6G communication technology as his first visit of the new year, judging that securing this technology will determine not only Samsung's future but also the competitiveness of the Korean economy.
As a technology that determines the success or failure of future new technology competition, countries around the world, including the United States, Europe, and Japan, are promoting securing leadership in 6G technology as a national project.
The Korean government also selected 6G technology as one of the 12 national strategic technologies at the end of last year and has begun full-scale nurturing.
This is the first time in five years since January 2019, when Chairman Lee participated in the launch ceremony of the 5G equipment production line at Samsung Electronics' Suwon plant, that he has checked network communication technology as his first management move of the new year.
By visiting the 6G technology R&D site this time, he appears to have expressed his determination to preempt the 6G market, which will become the main revenue source of the network business in five years, and to expand market share.
Samsung Electronics plans to continue its "ultra-competitive leadership" in the 6G field based on its experience and capabilities as the world's first company to commercialize 5G communication technology. Chairman Lee also held a meeting with researchers from Samsung Research's Next-Generation Communication Research Center and Samsung Electronics' Network Business Division, continuing his communication with employees.
He encouraged employees for their achievements in technology development and market expansion so far and urged them to strive to maintain "ultra-competitive leadership" in next-generation communication through continuous research and development.
