Yangcheon-gu to Completely Change Volume-Based Waste Bag Design for the First Time in 15 Years
Complete Redesign of Text-Based Volume-Based Waste Bag Design, Visualizing Disposal Guidelines and Prohibited Items for Improved Readability
Inclusion of Former Character 'Bolbbangbbang Haewoori', Listing Large Waste Collection Companies and Day-Specific Disposal Schedules by Neighborhood for Easier Disposal
Existing Volume-Based Waste Bags Available for Sale and Use Until Stock Runs Out, New Bags to be Distributed from Mid-Next Month
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will completely redesign the volume-based waste bags for the first time in 15 years since changing to the current design in 2009, in order to encourage proper waste separation and improve convenience for residents, and will start selling the newly redesigned bags from next month.
The existing volume-based waste bags had waste disposal instructions written in small text, making them difficult to read. Accordingly, the district reduced the amount of text and visualized disposal methods, including prohibited items, with pictograms so that anyone can understand them at a glance.
Additionally, to promote a culture of exemplary waste separation, the official Yangcheon-gu character ‘Bolbbangbbang Haewoori’ illustrations were added to give a friendly image. Furthermore, a list of collection companies and contact information necessary for disposing of large waste via phone calls is included, along with the disposal days by neighborhood, which residents often find confusing, aiming to create a pleasant urban environment.
The new design will be applied to household, food waste, and reusable bags, with colors remaining the same as before (white · green · white).
The existing volume-based waste bags can be sold and used until stocks are depleted, and the selling price remains unchanged. Depending on the sales locations, the new volume-based waste bags are expected to be distributed in the market as early as mid-February after the existing stock is sold out.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “I hope this redesign of the volume-based waste bags, which improves readability mainly through illustrations, will serve as an opportunity for the proper waste separation culture to take root in the local community.” He added, “Since cleaning administration is closely related to residents’ daily lives, we will do our best to implement efficient and substantial environmental policies to make Yangcheon-gu a clean city.”
