Hundreds in London Subway Appear in 'No Pants' Attire... What Happened?
'Riding the Subway Pants-Free' Event
Started in 2002, Held in Over 60 Countries
Hundreds of men and women in London, UK, attracted attention by participating in an event where they boarded the subway wearing only underwear without pants.
On the 7th (local time), foreign media including the AP reported that the 'No Trousers Tube Ride' event was held in London, UK. This event was started as a prank in 2002 by a comedy performance art group called 'Improve Everywhere' in New York, USA, and is now held in more than 60 countries worldwide.

View original imageImprove Everywhere stated about this event, "The event started as a small prank by seven men and has grown into an international event with dozens of cities around the world participating every year." The way to participate in the event is simple.
Anyone, regardless of age or gender, can board the subway wearing their usual clothes on top but only underwear on the bottom. Although dressed in underwear, it is important not to feel embarrassed or be conscious of others' gazes and to act naturally.
In fact, London citizens who participated in the event that day naturally moved around the subway station and platforms, such as riding escalators without pants, and entertained surrounding citizens by sitting on subway seats reading books or paper newspapers and looking at their phones.
Hundreds of citizens who voluntarily participated in the event boarded the subway wearing only underwear, socks, and shoes, without skirts or pants. Due to the cold weather with a daytime high temperature around 5 degrees Celsius, although they wore only underwear on the bottom, their upper bodies were heavily dressed with hats, scarves, and gloves, which was another source of amusement.

Photos and videos of them were uploaded one after another not only at the scene but also on various social networking services (SNS). While some citizens could not hold back laughter upon seeing people dressed only in underwear, most showed indifferent attitudes by making an effort to keep a calm expression or looking elsewhere.
Meanwhile, this event has also faced controversy over obscenity. In 2006, eight participants in New York, USA, were arrested by the New York police on charges of public indecency during the event.

Subsequently, the court ruled that boarding the subway without pants is not illegal. In Asia, the event has been held in China, Hong Kong, and Japan, but it has never been held in Korea so far.
