Taste Fresh Sashimi from Seafood Markets at Convenience Stores... CU Expands Live Fish Sashimi 'Pickup' Service in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
Expanded to 22 Cities in the Seoul Metropolitan Area Including Paju, Yongin, and Namyangju
Cumulative Usage Surpasses 4,500 Cases... 74.1% Are Repeat Users
CU, a convenience store operated by BGF Retail, announced on the 8th that it will expand its 'Seafood Market Fresh Sashimi Pickup Service' from the Seoul area to the entire metropolitan area.
The areas where CU is expanding the service include a total of 21 cities in the metropolitan area, such as Paju, Yongin, and Namyangju. However, eup, myeon, ri, and island/mountainous areas are excluded. CU plans to increase the number of stores offering the service from about 400 at the end of last year to 1,500 within the expanded metropolitan area by the first half of this year.

The fresh sashimi pickup service, launched exclusively by CU in 2022 in partnership with the seafood distribution platform In-eo Gyoju Haejeokdan, allows customers to order sashimi from Noryangjin and Garak-dong seafood markets before noon and pick it up at a nearby convenience store after 8 PM on the same day.
To use the service, customers select convenience store pickup when purchasing products at CU affiliated stores within the In-eo Gyoju Haejeokdan application and order the desired items. To receive the product, customers present the order number shown in the receipt message to the store staff. Since freshness is crucial for sashimi, it is packaged in a special box for delivery and safely stored in the store’s refrigerator until the customer picks it up. Products not collected by 10 PM on the same day are automatically discarded the next day.
CU explains that choosing convenience store pickup reduces delivery fees by up to 45% compared to regular delivery and alleviates the burden of having to receive the product at a specific delivery time in case of absence.

CU has also integrated the fresh sashimi pickup service into its own app, Pocket CU. By tapping the 'Sashimi Pickup' icon in Pocket CU, users are connected to the In-eo Gyoju Haejeokdan app to use the service immediately.
Since its launch, CU’s fresh sashimi pickup service surpassed 150 uses within one month and exceeded 4,500 cumulative uses by the end of last year. Notably, CU states that 74.1% of customers who used the sashimi pickup service used it again. In response, CU has increased the number of partner sashimi restaurants and stores offering the service by 3.9 times and 18.4 times, respectively, compared to the early days of the service.
