Jinan Police Station and Jinan Fire Station Join Hands to Establish Proper Hiking Culture
Jinan-gun, Jeonbuk Province (Governor Jeon Chun-seong) announced on the 5th that it has officially begun efforts to attract a public mountaineering school.
According to the county, as the first step, a business agreement was signed on the same day in the county office situation room with Jinan Police Station (Chief Joo Hyun-oh) and Jinan Fire Station (Chief Ra Myung-soon) to establish a proper mountaineering culture and attract the public mountaineering school project.
On the 5th, Jinan County, Jinan Police Station, and Jinan Fire Station signed a business agreement to establish a proper hiking culture and prevent mountain accidents, and have officially started efforts to attract a public hiking school.

This agreement was made in response to the increasing national interest in forest recreation and the growing number of hikers, aiming to prevent frequent safety accidents and forest damage caused by lack of proper hiking methods and information, and to establish a foundation for prompt response in emergencies.
The main contents of the agreement include cooperation to attract a public mountaineering school in the western region, development of linked programs, and collaboration for systems to prevent mountain activity safety accidents and rescue operations.
Governor Jeon Chun-seong said, "Our region, with numerous famous mountains such as Maisan, Unjangsan, and Gubongsan, sees continuous foot traffic from hikers. We will strengthen cooperation with related organizations so that many people can enjoy hiking safely and healthily," adding, "Let us unite our efforts to establish and operate a public mountaineering school in Jinan-gun, which has excellent forest resources, so that many citizens in the western region can receive systematic education."

Meanwhile, the National Mountaineering Schools under the Korea Forest Service currently operate Sokcho Mountaineering School (eastern region) since 2018, with Miryang Mountaineering School (southern region) scheduled for completion in 2024, and Boeun Mountaineering School (central region) in 2026. The western region mountaineering school will be operated by local governments and selected through a public contest as a public mountaineering school.
