China urges restraint from both sides in North Korea maritime shooting, calls for resolution through dialogue and negotiation
The Chinese government stated on the 5th that it "hopes all parties will remain calm and exercise restraint, refraining from actions that escalate tensions" regarding North Korea's maritime firing near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the northwestern island area of the West Sea.
Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing that when asked whether China supports or opposes North Korea's maritime firing, "We hope all parties avoid worsening the situation and create conditions for meaningful dialogue to resume." Wang added, "In recent years, confrontations among relevant parties have intensified, and the situation on the Korean Peninsula has remained tense. As a neighbor of the Korean Peninsula, China insists on safeguarding peace and stability on the peninsula and resolving the Korean Peninsula issue through dialogue and negotiation."
