Gwangju City Promotes Housing Stability Support Project for Jeonse Fraud Victims
Support for Loan Interest, Monthly Rent, and Moving Expenses
Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Gi-jung) announced on the 5th that it will actively promote the "Housing Stability Support Project for Jeonse Fraud Victims" to assist tenants suffering from jeonse fraud damage.
The city will provide support for jeonse deposit loan interest, monthly rent for private housing occupancy, and moving expenses for tenants moving into emergency public rental housing to those confirmed as victims of jeonse fraud.
According to the enforcement of the Special Act on Jeonse Fraud, the city received a total of 191 applications for jeonse fraud damage from June 1 of last year to January 4 of this year.
Among them, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Jeonse Fraud Damage Support Committee reviewed 159 cases and recognized 127 cases (79.8%) as victims. The remaining 32 cases are still under investigation by Gwangju City or under review by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The 127 recognized victims are now eligible to receive various government supports under the Special Act, including assistance with auction and public sale procedures, credit recovery support, financial aid, and emergency support.
In addition, Gwangju City plans to proactively implement measures such as support for jeonse deposit loan interest and monthly rent assistance for private housing occupancy in connection with the government's financial and housing support policies under the Special Act, which is expected to greatly help jeonse fraud victims facing difficulties.
First, the city will support the jeonse deposit loan interest for tenants who are victims of jeonse fraud. For victims who have received low-interest loans from the Housing and Urban Fund, Gwangju City will cover the full interest on the Jeonse Tenant Support Fund loan at rates of 1.2% to 3% for two years.
If the victim tenant signs a new lease contract with monthly rent, actual expenses will be supported up to 300,000 KRW per household per month for a maximum of 12 months. For victims who apply for emergency housing support and move into public rental housing, moving expenses will be reimbursed up to 1,000,000 KRW per household.
Citizens wishing to receive support can apply by visiting the Housing Policy Division of Gwangju City. Detailed support criteria can be found on the Gwangju City website's project announcement starting from the 8th.
