'50 Billion Won Club Allegation in Daejang-dong' Former Special Prosecutor Park Young-soo Requests Bail in Court
Detention Period Set to Expire on the 20th of Next Month
Former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, who was arrested and indicted on suspicion of receiving or being promised bribes from private developers in Daejang-dong, known as the so-called '50 Billion Club' scandal, recently requested a non-custodial trial from the court.
According to the legal community on the 5th, former special prosecutor Park filed a bail petition with the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Chief Judge Kim Dong-hyun) on the 27th of last month. With the detention period set to expire on the 20th of next month, the court's decision has not yet been announced. A bail hearing date has not been scheduled, but since a trial date is set for the 11th, it is possible that both will proceed together.

View original imageFormer special prosecutor Park was arrested and indicted on August 21 last year on charges of accepting bribes under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes and violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act. He is accused of having served as an outside director, chairman of the board, and audit committee member at Woori Bank from November 3, 2014, to April 7, 2015, during which he allegedly promised 20 billion KRW and received 800 million KRW in exchange for accommodating requests related to the consortium of private developers, including Nam Wook, involved in the Daejang-dong development project.

He is also accused of conspiring with his daughter, Park [first name withheld], to receive 1.1 billion KRW disguised as 'short-term loans' from Hwacheon Daeyu, whose major shareholder is Kim Man-bae, in five installments between September 6, 2019, and February 26, 2021, while he was serving as special prosecutor.
