Xenofocus Recognized by MFDS as Vitamin K2 Food Additive... "Rapid Growth Expected in Domestic Vitamin K2 Market"
Genofocus announced on the 5th that the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (hereinafter 'MFDS') has recognized Vitamin K2 as a food additive. Accordingly, rapid growth of the market utilizing Vitamin K2 is expected in South Korea as well.
Recently, the MFDS newly designated Vitamin K2 as a food additive through a partial revision notice of the "Standards and Specifications for Food Additives" under Article 7, Paragraph 1 of the Food Sanitation Act. In South Korea, Vitamin K2 is exclusively produced by Genofocus's subsidiary, GF Permantech.
Vitamin K2 is already globally recognized for its functionality and is used in various health functional foods (hereinafter 'health supplements'). It is especially known to help prevent and improve osteoporosis by activating osteocalcin, which aids calcium absorption into bones. It also activates MGP (Matrix Gla Protein), which regulates calcium metabolism and is effective in preventing calcification caused by calcium accumulation in blood vessels.
GF Permantech produces Vitamin K2 through an eco-friendly microbial fermentation method, being the third in the world and the only one in South Korea to do so. In particular, they use the latest separation method, supercritical extraction, to precisely purify Vitamin K2 without impurities, and apply encapsulation technology to maintain activity, resulting in excellent stability.
Until now, Vitamin K2 was not listed in the Food Additive Codex in South Korea, so most products produced by GF Permantech were exported. With this revision of the standards and specifications for food additives, Vitamin K2 can now be used in foods and health supplements.

A Genofocus official stated, "With the enforcement of this revision, the health supplement market utilizing Vitamin K2 will expand, and the sales of GF Permantech, the only Vitamin K2 producer in South Korea, will increase significantly. If the functional raw material (notified type) approval for Vitamin K2, expected in the first quarter, is also achieved, additional benefits from the growth of the domestic Vitamin K2 market will be possible."
