Unannounced Inspections of Bulk Lorry Charging Stations
An emergency inspection following the LPG filling station explosion accident in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province on the 1st confirmed issues with non-compliance to safety regulations within the station.
On the 4th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held an industry meeting chaired by Park Chan-gi, Director General of the Hydrogen Economy Policy Office, to discuss the causes of the Pyeongchang LPG filling station explosion and response measures.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, an emergency inspection of the accident site conducted by Second Vice Minister Kang Kyung-sung on the 2nd confirmed problems with non-compliance to safety regulations within the filling station. Accordingly, to prevent similar accidents, the Ministry and the Gas Safety Corporation have been conducting urgent safety management measures since the 3rd, including ▲special inspections of all LPG filling stations nationwide (January 3 to February 29) ▲a full survey of LPG-fueled vehicles (January 3 to 31) ▲special training for filling station workers and an investigation into the performance of safety managers (January 3 to February 29). The Ministry plans to strictly enforce administrative actions if violations of related regulations are found during inspections. Additionally, as a follow-up to the special inspections of LPG filling stations, from next month, unannounced inspections will be conducted on bulk lorry filling stations to monitor compliance with safety regulations on site.

Director General Park stated, "It is urgent that the Corporation and the Association cooperate to ensure that safety regulations are strictly followed on site, especially at filling stations that store large quantities of LPG, so that the public can feel assured about LPG, a fuel closely related to the livelihood of ordinary people."
