Gwangju Dong-gu Operates Fall Prevention Program for Dementia Patients
Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 2nd that it will operate the 'Visiting Innovative Organizing and Storage Rest Shelter Class' for households with dementia patients in the district for two months from January to February in the new year of Gapjin.
This project, the first of its kind nationwide, is a home-based cognitive rehabilitation program that combines fall prevention with residential environment improvement. Participants in the program are dementia patients registered at the Dementia Safety Center who have experienced falls or are at high risk of falling.
Once the project is implemented, a visiting team composed of experts will visit the participants' homes to identify fall risk factors and conduct education on organizing and maintaining the environment, including item storage, in cooperation with a team of organizing and storage experts. To this end, Dong-gu plans to operate the program in collaboration with a club team composed of experts holding Level 1 organizing and storage specialist qualifications.
Dong-gu expects this program to enhance safety within the homes, which are the main living spaces for dementia patients, thereby preventing falls and causing positive changes in daily life, contributing to the improvement of cognitive abilities.
