Kim Jin-pyo: "The Double Special Prosecutor Law (Kim Gun-hee and Daejang-dong) Should Be Judged According to the Public's Expectations"
No Reason to Delay or Rush Transfer Timing of Ssangteukgeom Act
Lee Jae-myung Assault Incident, Election System Reform Needed for Dialogue and Compromise
Speaker of the National Assembly Kim Jin-pyo emphasized the need for discussions on electoral system reform to overcome polarized politics in relation to the attack on Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. Regarding the transfer of the dual special prosecution bills (Kim Gun-hee special prosecution and Daejang-dong special prosecution) to the government, Speaker Kim said, "There is no particular reason to expedite it, but there is also no reason to delay it." He urged that the handling of the dual special prosecution bills be judged according to the public's expectations.
At a New Year's press conference held at Sarangjae in the National Assembly on the 4th, Speaker Kim responded to reporters' questions about solutions to the hate politics arising from the attack on Lee by saying, "Through electoral reform, a political system that considers the opposing party as a partner, a system of dialogue and compromise, is necessary."
He said, "Politics is ultimately about reality, so it is difficult to always implement ideal and desirable things 100% at once," adding, "You cannot just assert your own opinions, and you have to absorb the claims of minority political forces, so a realistic approach is needed where policies are implemented at 70% or 80% first and then improved later. We need to relieve impatience." Regarding this, Speaker Kim emphasized, "In terms of electoral system reform, deep discussions and dialogue and compromise within our political circles are necessary."
