Explosion at Memorial Ceremony for Revolutionary Guards General 'Killed by US Forces'
An explosion occurred during a memorial event for an Iranian Revolutionary Guard general who was assassinated by the U.S. military four years ago.
According to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency on the 3rd (local time), during the memorial ceremony for Commander Qasem Soleimani held at the 'Martyrs' Cemetery' in Kerman, a city about 1076 km southeast of the capital Tehran, two consecutive explosions occurred with loud noises.
More than 15 mourners at the scene were injured by the explosion and were transported to nearby hospitals. Local authorities stated, "It is not yet clear whether the explosion was caused by gas or a terrorist attack."
Commander Soleimani, who led the elite Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard, was killed on January 3, 2020, by a U.S. drone strike as he was leaving Baghdad airport in Iraq.

Recently, Raj Musavi, a Revolutionary Guard general and close aide to Soleimani, was also killed in an Israeli attack amid the war between Israel and the Palestinian armed group Hamas.
