Baritone Kim Tae-han, violinist Jung Nuri, trombonist Seo Juhyun, and guitarist An Yongheon, who won the Queen Elizabeth Competition last year, will take the stage at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei.
Kumho Art Hall announced on the 3rd that these four, including Kim Tae-han, have been selected as this year's 'Kumho Rising Star' performers. Kumho Rising Star is a stage where Kumho Art Hall introduces promising talents in the classical music world.
Jung Nuri will perform the first stage on the 18th. Jung Nuri won second place at the 56th Premio Paganini Competition in 2021. At the age of 16, she won three awards: the highest interpretation prize for contemporary music, the special prize for the youngest finalist, and the runner-up.
In the first part of the concert, Jung Nuri will perform Tchaikovsky's "Meditation" from Souvenir d'un lieu cher and Prokofiev's Violin Sonata No. 2. In the second part, she will play three pieces by Niccol? Paganini inspired by opera arias of Gioachino Rossini and Giovanni Paisiello. She will present variations on "Nel cor pi? non mi sento," "Non pi? mesta," and "Di tanti palpiti."
Jung Nuri has studied under the late Kim Nam-yoon and Kim Seong-sook at the Korea National Institute for Gifted Education since 2014, when she was nine years old, and is currently studying with Boris Kuschnir in Vienna, Austria.
Following her, Seo Juhyun will perform on the 25th, and An Yongheon will continue the performances on the 15th of next month.
Seo Juhyun was the first Asian to win second place in the trombone category at the 2023 Prague Spring International Music Competition. He debuted in 2018 with the Kumho Young Artist Concert and was selected as a cultural and artistic talent scholarship recipient by the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation in 2019. He attended Sunhwa Arts Middle School and Sunhwa Arts High School and is currently enrolled at Seoul National University.
Classical guitarist An Yongheon began playing guitar at age 11 and debuted in 2017 with the Kumho Young Artist Concert. He won the Valencia Alboraya International Guitar Competition in Spain last year and the 2022 Arriaga International Guitar Competition in Spain. In 2022, he placed second without a first prize at the Fernando Sor International Guitar Competition in Italy. He is currently pursuing the highest performance course at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart in Germany, studying under Johannes Monno.
Kim Tae-han will perform the final stage on July 25. He gained worldwide attention by becoming the youngest winner of the Queen Elizabeth Competition last year. At the Placido Domingo Operalia International Competition held in Cape Town, South Africa, last year, he received the Rolex Audience Award. It has been eight years since a vocalist appeared on the Kumho Rising Star series stage.
Kim Tae-han graduated at the top of his class from Sunhwa Arts High School and Seoul National University College of Music, studying under Na Geon-yong. He is currently active as a young artist at the Berlin Staatsoper Opera Studio and pursuing a master's degree at the Berlin University of the Arts Hans Eisler, studying under Eva Bollak and Klaus Hager.
