The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 3rd that it has increased this year's Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget by 173% compared to last year, totaling 13.088 billion KRW. It plans to faithfully fulfill its pivotal role in international development cooperation for national heritage.
The budget will be allocated to strengthening the capacity for cultural heritage tourism resource development in Luxor, Egypt; supporting the establishment of the Egypt Digital Heritage Center; and revitalizing the cultural tourism industry through enhancing traditional craft skills and digital marketing capabilities in the Kyrgyz Republic. The project to strengthen the capacity for cultural heritage tourism resource development in Luxor involves restoring the pylon gate of the Ramesseum temple, the mortuary temple where the funeral rites of Ramses II were conducted.
This year, the Cultural Heritage Administration will also newly undertake the restoration and maintenance of the base of the Bakong temple at Angkor Wat, Cambodia. Following the United States, Germany, Italy, and Japan, it will become the fifth country to engage in international development cooperation projects at Angkor Wat. Additionally, bilateral international development cooperation projects will be promoted in Laos, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and other regions, while contributions will be made to international organizations such as UNESCO and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, thereby strengthening the international status in the field of national heritage.
